The Museum of Ornamental Post East Gallery and Cafe is putting out the call for your recipes ... be they for pies, desserts, poetry, mail art or disaster ... or you can just send us your best food p0rn...

Exhibit to run from September 1st to October 1st
( with the possibility of a run at CAR in Rawdon Quebec )

The best recipes of the show will be assembled into a Mail Art cookbook for all participants.

Gallery opening / Wine and Spicy Chocolate Social will be Sunday September 13th at 15:00 in the East Gallery Cafe. (Sorry S, I know )

Admission is free (restricted to 18+) but contributions to the wine and chocolate stash are always welcome.

Help Save Room 302 Books

john curry, certainly a world class poet living in our community, is
presently facing almost certain eviction.

Stephen Brockwell alerted me of this precarious situation, by phone, and
asked if I would get the word out, most recently at the TREE Reading
Series on September 22, where we were able to scare up enough to cover one
of his 5 months owed rent & save his telephone service.

curry's been in constant production of his own and hundreds of others work
since 1979. hes mainly ineligible for grants. His bookstore is mainly an
unused resource. His archive documenting the growth of avant-garde writing
in Canada is one of the key collections in the country. Nicky Drumbolis
has said: curry and his work are the best-kept secret in Canada.

Since time is of the essence, if curry's to avoid eviction, there are a few
ways you can help:

Start to use his goddamn store!

Room 302 Books is the only bookstore in Canada ever to focus
specifically on the avant-garde and overlooked outsiders, specializing in
concrete/visual/sound poetries (mainly Canadian) with a stock of over
20,000 mainly rare titles, including elusive ephemera, and probably the
only source of most of jwcurry's various imprints and titles (which number
in the thousands). curry's current lists finally focus on his own work as
artist & publisher, virtually the first time everything thats (still)
available has been made commonly available. You can purchase bookstore
IOUs (or set up an account) today in any amount for those who'd like to do
that.

Subscribe to Curvd H&z, curry's serial imprint. donor subscriptions
(please indicate) of $100 or more get « the stash in a sampling of available
titles from various of his imprints immediately, the remaining « put on
account for forthcoming titles.

Donate outright.

I would like to encourage you to donate something so as to keep this
excellent bookstore, publisher, archive and artist alive, and at the same
time help prevent curry's eviction from his apartment. For those who'd like

The date hasn't been settled yet but to fight the doledrums of the Canadian winter and bring artists together for a little winter cheer we are holding a salon/mail art show. Today is catalogue day, time to store the old and bring out the new ... some additions from Ryosuke Cohen's Brain Cell, Marcus Steffler, Walt Evans, Servane Morel and El Taller de Zenon.

And on the topic of El Taller de Zenon, we loved his envelope so much that we were inspired to open a new exhibit on envelope art along the North Gallery ...

Also the Museum of Ornamental Post was digging through some older pre-Museum archives and found some new additions for the library; 3 editions Novel Amusements, Infiltration #24 and a secret mini poetry book from musician John Southworth (http://www.johnsouthworth.ca/).

The Library at MOOP

Today is the Museum of Ornamental Post's Library opening. It was celebrated with yummy farmer market goodness and lots of thick afternoon coffee.

And just to make things sweeter a new edition came in the mail today just as things were ramping up... Helene Lacelle and Peter Evanchuck's "Pages of Canada." The collection of stories and art about Canada just went on sale and can be purchased through their wonderful website ...

The MOOP Library contains 3 works from bookshandmade ( Helene Lacelle and Peter Evanchuck of Ottawa ) , 2 collections of drawings from American artist Chuck Gattuso, 3 small drawing 'zines from myself, 2 issues of La Boheme from Mark Greenfield of England, a homeless 'zine from Canada and an issue of Pokuland from Switzerland's Lothar Trott.

The Museum of Ornamental Post is please to announce even more addtions to our ongoing exhibit of all things postal ... including new works from Ficus strangulensis, Walt Evans, Chuck Gattuso, David Berube, Anke, Rachel Freeman and many other international artists.

The gallery expansion committee is almost ready to sign off on the new architectural plans and building will soon be under way.

More news soon on the Museum's expansion plans and our first retrospective show.
